Highworth Canoe Club was formed in 1991 by four mad enthusiasts, who regularly paddled together. The aim of the club is to introduce canoeing to as many people as possible.
Affiliated to the British Canoe Union the club offers good basic tuition with the opportunity to progress to more advanced levels. The experienced and highly qualified B.C.U. instructors operate to strict guidelines laid down by the sports governing body.
Although initial training is carried out on a lake, the club operates throughout the year with advanced training and experience being gained by using swimming pools, canals and rivers, including, "white water" for the more advanced paddlers.
Trips, usually at weekends, cover a wide area of the south-west are good fun for everyone from all ages taking part. It may be a lazy paddle along a restored canal, in a beautiful tree lined valley teeming with wild life, or a heart pounding blast down rapids and over waterfalls where staying dry is impossible and remaining upright a real challenge.
The club owns a good selection of boats, both Kayak and Canadian Open, complete with all safety equipment, which can be used by members.
