About

Highworth Canoe Club is an amateur
club aimed at all ages and abilities.

The club was formed in 1991 by four mad enthusiasts, who regularly paddled together. The aim of the club is to introduce canoeing to as many people as possible. Affiliated to the British Canoe Union the club offers good basic tuition with the opportunity to progress to more advanced levels. The experienced and highly qualified B.C.U. instructors operate to strict guidelines laid down by the sport's governing body.

The club owns a good selection of boats - both kayak and open canoes - complete with all safety equipment which can be used by members for a nominal fee - which goes to the upkeep of the shared equipment.

Trips, usually at weekends, cover a wide area of the country and are good fun for everyone of all ages. It may be a lazy paddle along a restored canal, in a beautiful tree line valley teeming with wildlife, or a heart pounding blast down rapids and over waterfalls where staying dry is impossible and remaining upright is a real challenge.

Membership

The club's season runs from Spring to Autumn - there is no Winter paddling.

If you are attending the evening training sessions and / or weekend trips you are expected to pay the membership fee (currently a lot cheaper than other clubs). There is also an Honestly Box in the club house for those using the clubs kit for a fee of £2 per session (very reasonable!)

The membership fee is payable by cash, cheque (made payable to Highworth Canoe Club) or bank transfer ( details available on request ).

Membership fees pay for the club's insurance, river passes, renovation and maintenance of the club house, kit and kayaking courses so please make sure you do your bit and support the club.

The fees are as follows:

  • Family Membership (Non BCU members) - £40
  • Family Membership (BCU members) - £36
  • Adult (Over 18 and non BCU member) - £30
